Pea Protein Benefits

Information
pea protein benefits

Over the past few years, pea protein has become a common replacement for the usual sources of protein, especially when you’re talking supplemental powders.  Soy and whey are the more common ingredients in protein supplement powders, but that’s almost solely because they’re more well known. The fact that almost everybody is aware of whey protein and its benefits is exactly why companies continue to use whey protein to make their products.  More often than not, a manufacturer can get away with charging a bit more for a product containing whey protein and even more for a product containing soy! The truth of the matter is, pea protein is often a bit cheaper to manufacture and use as a protein supplement so you can probably help your wallet out while you’re helping your body out!  Obviously, if you’re practicing veganism, there is little else in the way of protein supplementation.

Benefits of Supplementing with Pea Protein

The benefits of supplementing with pea protein powders really aren’t that different from the benefits that you’d see using the other couple of options.  For instance, you’re going to really bolster those muscles by enhancing the muscle growth rate.  Consuming elevated levels of proteins after a good workout in the gym will help your muscles recover, ensuring you won’t be sore before your next workout.  The regenerative properties of protein for the cells that make up your muscles are very real and post workout protein shakes shouldn’t be forgotten or ignored.

The second major benefit of pea protein consumption is the inherent increase of complex fat metabolic rates.  By starting your day with a meal replacement protein shake, your going to jump start the metabolism, resulting in visceral fat loss if you keep your body at a good caloric deficit.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, pea protein powder is usually loaded with antioxidants.  Since the protein is extracted from peas, quite a few other nutrients will be extracted with it.  Where whey protein is almost strictly protein, peas contain vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B-6, magnesium, iron, calcium, and fiber.  The vitamins and antioxidants found in peas make their way into pea protein powder supplements and will help you have more energy to power through your workouts and be more alert during your every day life.

Lastly, taste.  It’s common knowledge that whey protein doesn’t taste very good.  Why consume that bitter mess when you can have something that actually has a halfway decent flavor to it?
